Combined Delivery: Se & Ssp

THE INTERSECTION OF SOMATIC EXPERIENCING (SE) & THE SAFE & SOUND PROTOCOL (SSP)

The internal mechanisms of SE and SSP for nervous system change are quite similar; each complementing the other’s greater goal of restored nervous system capacity, flexibility, and enhanced resilience.

SE and SSP affect change within the autonomic nervous system and are both Polyvagal-informed methods of intervention. Respect for the nervous system’s unique capacity to guide one back toward homeostasis through the inherent mechanisms of expansion and contraction are similar in both SE and SSP.

Both modalities provide bottom-up or neurophysiological support for processing events held in body consciousness (spanning from the individual’s chronological age, to historic events, to intergenerationally bound traumas, or to collective trauma).

The social engagement system is used as a primary resource during this process in addition to internal and external resources that are identified during the session. The provider plays an active role in identifying and helping to name these resources. The movement through these energy wells gradually increases capacity in the entire system, including the social engagement system.
