Expressive Arts

Drawing. stitching. painting. cutting paper. writing poetry, land-art.

In Expressive Arts (EXA), the focus is on the experience found during the creative process. The knowledge that comes in such creative moments is best defined by the Greek word, Poiesis. The concept of poiesis means to know by creating. By creatively exploring an issue that is all too often only held in reasoning and observation, we create another perspective by which change and growth is possible.

Concepts like presence, trusting in process, inquiry, receptivity, embodiment, creative and active imagination, perception, personal growth, non-judgement, playfulness, and attention to beauty are just a few EXA ideas that influence my work with others

I have seen Expressive Arts give clients a mechanism for supporting change and facilitating purpose. I have also seen groups of people come into better connection through participating in EXA and also witnessing EXA endeavors. I've seen creative endeavors give a way for experiences that have been too intensely held inside. These experiences are given space by having an outward expression through art making processes.
